Chains and art

Figurative Sculptures Made From Tightly Welded Chains. Korean artist Yeong-Deok Seo creates imposing figurative sculptures using tightly knit configurations of welded bicycle chains and industrial steel chains. While impressive in their intricacy and the apparent skill required to create them, the artwork’s titles such as Infection – Anguish,Infection – Ego, and Addict, suggest the rippled surface created by the materials is not an arbitrary decision. These are figures of individuals in dispair, pockmarked with disease, the chains acting as a metaphor for the human condition.

Questa scultura figurativa è composta da catene strettamente saldate tra loro.  L'artista coreano Yeong-Deok Seo crea imponenti sculture utilizzando le configurazioni di catene a maglia stretta saldate e catene di biciclette industriali in acciaio. Sono impressionanti nella loro complessità e nell'abilità che richiedono per essere realizzati.  I titoli delle opere d'arte, quali l'infezione - Angoscia, Infezione - Ego, e Addict, suggeriscono che la superficie increspata creata dai materiali non è una decisione arbitraria. Si tratta di figure di individui in disperazione, costellata di malattie, perciò le catene agiscono come una metafora della condizione umana.

All of us when we were kids we put a playing card in the spokes of the bicycle to simulate the sound of a motorcycle.

This video, entitled "Bicycle sounds" is a grown-up version of that pastime: the photographer and video-maker Stephen Meierding built a small jewel of sound design. The director won an award from the 2012 edition of the "Bike Short Film Festival" this past spring in New York

Abandoned Bike Project

Bicycle skeletons evoke stories in a WNYC art display

Of the hundreds of bikes locked and languishing on New York City blocks, several have been liberated and donated by the Department of Sanitation and the youth service charity Recycle-A-Bicycle and are now on display in the windows of the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WNYC/WQXR in downtown Manhattan. The humble but enchanting exhibit—curated by Transportation Nation, a reporting project of WNYC—also includes a slideshow of photos of abandoned bicycles submitted by listeners.
