Penta: the new hub in black edition

Il mozzo Penta Nero è la versione limitata dell'ultimo innovativo prodotto Alchemist.

The Black Penta hub is the limited edition of Alchemist's latest innovative product.

Penta è un mozzo posteriore per utilizzo Race Cross Country e Marathon, caratterizzato dalla presenza di ben cinque cuscinetti per il massimo dell'affidabilità in assenza di torsioni.

Penta è stato studiato in collaborazione con racer professionisti in funzione delle esigenze della categoria "competition". Il risultato è un mozzo altamente affidabile e rigido per distribuire al massimo la potenza. L'aver aggiunto un cuscinetto in più rispetto ai mozzi tradizionali rende Penta davvero unico e innovativo.

Il corpo principale è realizzato in alluminio 7075 T6 con un procedimento a controllo numerico. Il corpo centrale è in carbonio 18K IM UD, la cui trama all'esterno si sviluppa in senso unidirezionale così da ottenere la massima rigidità, mentre è incrociata all'interno per un’elevata resistenza alla torsione. Al fine di aumentare l’assorbimento di sollecitazioni e impatti, Penta è stato realizzato con resina IMPACT-PROOF contenente polimeri plastici, in uno stampo ad alta pressione.

Penta is a rear hub for use in Race Cross Country and Marathon. It features five bearings for maximum reliability and increased resistance to torsion. Penta was designed in collaboration with professional racers according to “competition” category requirements. The result is a highly reliable and rigid hub for maximum power distribution. The addition of an extra bearing compared to traditional hubs makes Penta truly unique and innovative.

The main frame is created in numerically controlled 7075 T6 aluminium. The central frame is made of 18K IM UD carbon fibre with a unidirectional external weave for maximum rigidity and an internal unidirectional cross weave for increased resistance to torsion. In order to increase absorption of impact stress, Penta was manufactured using a high pressure mould with IMPACT-PROOF resin containing plastic polymers.

Alchemist presents Magneto

For the first time Alchemist prented the hub with Magneto technology (patent pending) at ExpoBici.

MAGNETO is a technology, covered by two Alchemist patents, thanks to which the hub offers continuous performance, the coupling is fast and the hub becomes indestructible. The heart of MAGNETO/’s innovation is the ratchet handling, which given its magnetic strength is no more than that of spring mechanics. Springs constituted the weak point of the hub as it was natural for them to be subject to wear, and over time to lose elasticity, slowing down the coupling and compromising the workings of the hub itself, sometimes causing the ratchets to break and consequently necessitating replacement. Having to access the springs constituted the second weak point of the hub as the seals do not render it completely impermeable to water and dust. In a hub equipped with the MAGNETO system the physical strength generated by the magnets to move the ratchets is practically unlimited over time and offers continuous performance even during coupling. Not having to access the hub cavity for maintenance purposes, it was possible to completely seal it thus rendering it completely indestructible.

Innovation Award 2012

Alchemist distinguished itself during the official contest "Innovation Award" of  ExpoBici 2012 thanks to its "level of innovation" in the category Components and accessories with 29'' FRONT WHEEL LEFTY FOR TUBULAR.

The jury, composed of leading experts, selected the winning products in each category starting from a shortlist of more than 60 products in the competition all characterized from high technological and scientific value. The verdict of the jury is available at this link.

The jury surely appreciated and wanted to enhance the handcrafted production system high-tech of Alchemist's Wheel which involves the use a high pressure mould with IMPACT-PROOF resin, which contains plastic polymers that increase the absorption of impact stress.
MTB and Cross Country's experts had noticed that Professionals with the Alchemist wheel can count on important innovations that will help their ventures. The wheel in fact has a nipless area that is strengthened by increasing resistance. The holes are tilted by ± 5° to avoid the spokes bending and to increase torsion rigidity. Holes are tilted in respect to the wheel axis to compensate wheel camber differences due to disc brakes. Only due caution: Should it have a rear mounting, wheel camber compensation should be assembled on the side of the disc brake to compensate the free wheel.

Regarding the response of the official competition of ExpoBici, Sandro Marcorin, creator and founder of Alchemist, pointed out that "The recognition honors us and for a reality that faces the market is even more significant.
